Our Story
Drama With A Difference has operated for 30 years.
It has been the initial training ground for some of Australia’s best- known actors. Several of these wonderful people have returned again and again to teach at the school.
Drama With A Difference has always been passionately committed to providing recreational drama classes to all ages, and in the past many children and teenagers have attended the school. Many have returned to the school as adults to partake in our various courses for ages 18 and over.
At this stage, Drama With A Difference is committed to providing recreational drama classes to adults of all ages and all backgrounds. We are very experienced in offering adults drama skills that will enable them to access the power of their imaginations. Drama is good for people! It can improve confidence, assist with work projects and public speaking events, and can be a wonderful form of stress release. This is often the greatest benefit that busy adults report having attended our classes. Drama With A Difference is a place where many adults form life long and powerful friendships.
If you are interested in pursuing acting on a serious level, please let us know as this is a great place to start. We also offer private lessons that focus on film and TV skills with the aim of creating a professional showreel for promotion purposes.

Mission & Philosophy
Our mission is to offer high quality recreational drama classes to adults of all ages, as well as options for those who are thinking about becoming professional and don’t know where to start. We are very experienced at integrating adults of varying levels of experience.
Our classes usually consist of a number of long- term students, some who have attended our classes for many years in a row. If this is you, or if you have taken classes elsewhere, we will challenge you in ways that match your experience.
If you are new to drama classes, we are experts at teaching beginners. Our philosophy is that all human beings are born with exceptional creative abilities that require a specific environment to nurture and bring to fruition. It is not always the case that those with experience are “better” than others in an acting class such as ours.
Our classes are not competitive in nature and the best results come through a class built on mutual support and encouragement of each participant.

Our Adult Recreational Drama Class is held at the Edinburgh Gardens Community Room in Fitzroy North, a beautiful, spacious venue perfectly suited to the kind of creative, movement-based work we do at Drama With A Difference.
